May 20085/31/08 Thomas places 9th in the national ARML Competition, out of 1900 participants, with one of only 11 perfect scores in the individual round! 5/12/08 Congratulations to Charles for qualifying for MOSP! He will join about 50 of the top math students in the country for three weeks of olympiad training. April 20084/25/08 In the Colorado Mathematical Olympiad, Marshall won first place and a $1000 scholarship. Ben tied for 3rd place. First honorable mention was awarded to TianTian, Charles, Norris, Vicky, Victor, Eric, and Chris. 4/8/08 Four of the six USAMO qualifiers from Colorado this year are from Fairview: Thomas, Charles, Chris, and Ben. In Colorado Thomas and Charles tied for the 2nd highest AIME score, Chris tied for 6th highest, and Norris, Victor and Ben tied for 8th highest. In the AMC 12, 7 of the top 9 Colorado scores were from Fairview: Marshall (3rd), Thomas (4th), Vicky (5th), TianTian (6th), Jirui (7th), and Victor and Norris (tied for 8th). Once again Fairview won the AMC 12 team prize. In the AMC 10, 3 of the top 4 Colorado scores were from Fairview: Ben (1st), Charles (2nd), and Chris (4th). 4/1/08 For the third year in a row, Fairview wins the Colorado Math League team championship. In the individual standings, 8 of the top 13 students were from Fairview: Marshall tied for 2nd place, Ben and Norris for 4th place, Chris and Victor for 6th place, Charles and TianTian for 11th place, and Thomas in 13th place. March 20083/17/08 In the final Mandelbrot standings, Fairview finished in 25th place for the national level and wins a plaque for placing 2nd in the regional level. For the national individual standings, Marshall, Norris, Vicky, Victor, and Thomas made the leaderboard. For the regional individual standings, Charles placed 5th and TianTian placed 15th. Also on the leaderboard are Ben, Eric, Chris, and Catherine. In the Team Play standings, Fairview finished in 14th place nationally. 3/12/08 For the sixth and final round of Math League, Fairview needed 3 perfect scores to clinch first place. We came up with six perfect scores from Eric, TianTian, Chris, Ben, Marshall, and Norris. 3/5/08 In the Mandelbrot Round 5 national level, Vicky had the highest score with 6 points, followed by Victor, Thomas and Marshall with 5 points. For the regional level, TianTian had the highest score with 10 points, followed by Charles and Ben with 6. In Mandelbrot Team Play Round 2, Team 1 had a perfect score of 28 points. Fairview moves up from 24th place to 13th place nationally! February 20082/28/08 In the UNC Math Contest final results, Ben tied for first place and Thomas tied for sixth. Albert was an 11th grade winner, and Chris and Eric were 9th grade winners. 2/24/08 With a perfect Round 5 team score, Fairview moves into first place in the Colorado Math League, three points ahead of Poudre. In the individual standings, Marshall and Charles are tied for second place, Ben, Victor, Norris tied for fifth place, and Chris in eighth. TianTian and Thomas are also on the leaderboard. 2/13/08 For Math League Round 5, Fairview posted a perfect 30 points, with sixes from Norris, Marshall, Chris, Charles, and Ben. 2/12/08 For Mandelbrot Round 4 national level, Marshall scored a perfect 14, followed by Thomas with 9 points. Fairview is currently in 23rd place. Marshall is in the 1st tier, Norris in the 2nd tier, and Vicky, Thomas, Victor in the 3rd tier. For the regional level, Charles and Ben scored 11, followed by TianTian with 9. Fairview is currently in 2nd place! Charles (4th place), TianTian, and Ben are in the 1st tier, and Chris, Eric, Catherine in the 2nd tier. Team Play Round 1 standings show that the top Fairview team is in 24th place in the nation (18th highest ranking school). January 20081/17/08 For Mandelbrot Round 3, Vicky, Victor and Marshall led the national level with scores of 8. For the regional level, Charles scored a perfect 14, followed by Eric, Chris and Ben with 11. The national level standings show that Fairview has moved up from 26th to 23rd place. On the leaderboard are Marshall, Norris and Vicky in the second tier, and Victor in the third tier. The regional level standings show Fairview has moved up to 3rd place team and Charles to 4th place individual! Other students on the leaderboard are TianTian and Eric in the first tier, and Ben, Chris and Catherine in the second tier. 1/15/08 For Math League Round 4, Marshall and Charles had perfect scores, followed by TianTian, Norris, Victor, Vicky, Chris, Thomas, and Ben, who all scored five. December 200712/31/07 After three rounds of Math League, Fairview remains in second place, 3 points behind Cherry Creek. In the individual standings, Victor is tied for 2nd place overall. Ben, Marshall, Charles, and Norris are tied for 6th place. Also on the leaderboard are Chris and TianTian. 12/18/07 For Math League Round 3, Victor and Norris scored perfect 6's. Nine students scored 5's. 12/11/07 Mandelbrot Round 2 standings have been posted. For the national level, Fairview remains in 26th place. On the leaderboard are Norris (1st tier), Marshall (2nd tier), and Vicky and Victor (3rd tier). For the regional level, Fairview has moved up from 11th to 5th place! On the leaderboard are Charles (6th place) and TianTian (1st tier), Catherine, Eric, and Ben (2nd tier), and Chris (3rd tier). 12/10/07 Eleven Fairview students have qualified for the UNC Math Contest final on Feb. 2: Ben, Eric, Chris, Charles, Catherine, Albert, Victor, TianTian, Thomas, Vicky, and Jirui. 12/4/07 For Mandelbrot Round 2, Norris had the highest national level score with 11 points, followed by Victor with 8 points. For the regional level, Charles scored a perfect 14, followed by Chris with 12, and Catherine and TianTian with 11. 12/3/07 After two rounds of Colorado Math League, Fairview remains in second place, two points behind Cherry Creek, and tied with Poudre. Seven Fairview students are on the leaderboard: Ben, Marshall, Victor, and Charles with 10 points, and Chris, Norris and TianTian with 9 points. November 200711/6/07 Mandelbrot Round 1 standings have been posted. For the national level, Marshall and Norris are on the leaderboard, and Fairview is in 26th place. For the regional level, Charles, Eric E, TianTian, Stone, and Catherine are on the leaderboard, and Fairview is in 11th place. For Colorado Math League Round 1, Fairview's score of 27 points tied Poudre for second place, one point behind Cherry Creek. TianTian and Charles were among the few students who received perfect scores. 11/2/07 An exciting and very successful CSU Math Day for Fairview! Our teams ranked first and third in the large school team competition, and placed four students among the top ten PROBE winners. Going into the semifinal round, Fairview had the only two undefeated teams. Thomas' team came very close to joining Marshall's team in the final round but lost a very close tiebreaker round to Poudre. Marshall's team faced Poudre twice, once in the third round and once in the final. Both times, Marshall's team shook off a three-point deficit to tie the score for the round. Both times, Marshall's team won the tiebreaker question, leaving the team undefeated and winner of the large school team trophy. In the harder-than-usual PROBE, Marshall placed 2nd, Ben 3rd, Norris 6th, and Vicky 9th. All were awarded CSU scholarships worth $3000-4000.
October 200710/26/07 In Round 1 of Colorado Math League, Fairview had two perfect scores from TianTian and Charles, followed by Thomas, Marshall, VeeVee, Victor, Chris, and Ben, who all scored 5. Team standings will be posted in a couple of weeks. 10/19/07 Round 1 of the Mandelbrot Competition took place this week. At the national level, Marshall had the highest score with 11 points, followed by Norris with 8. At the regional level, Charles had the highest score with 12 points, followed by Eric with 11 and TianTian with 9. June 20076/14/07 The Colorado ARML Team places fourth in the Western Division of the national ARML Competition, held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on June 1-2. Team members include Catherine, Hannah, Marshall, Norris, Thomas, TianTian, Vicky, and Victor. April 20074/25/07 Fairview wins the Colorado Math League for 2006-07! With a score of 28 in Round 6, Fairviews finishes in first place, outscoring Cherry Creek HS by five points. In the individual standings, Marshall, Thomas and Hannah all scored a perfect 6 in Round 6. Thomas and Hannah finished with perfect scores of 36 for the year, tying with two other Colorado students. Six other Fairview students made the leader board: Marshall, Vicky, Victor, Jirui, Catherine, and Norris. Great job! 4/7/07 Congratulations to Marshall, Thomas and Hannah on qualifying for the USAMO! Only 500 students in the U.S. and Canada (8 in Colorado) were invited to take the 2-day, 9-hour exam. Qualifiers were selected based on their AMC and AIME scores. State statistics for the AIME are not available yet but the AMC statistics are out. Fairview won first place for AMC12 team score. Fairview students also took five of the top 10 spots in the AMC12: Marshall (2nd), Hannah (5th), Jirui (6th), Victor (8th), and Thomas (10th). For the AMC10, Fairview placed two students in the top 10: Victor (5th) and Albert (9th). A banner year for Fairview! Addendum: Hannah, Marshall and Thomas tied for 2nd highest AIME score in Colorado. Norris and Vicky tied for 13th highest. March 20073/21/07 For Mandelbrot Round 4, Hannah had the highest national level score with 11 points, followed by Marshall, Thomas, Norris, and Vicky, all tied with 8 points. For regional scores, Jirui had the top score with 8, then Catherine with 7, and TianTian with 6. For the year, Norris and Hannah tied for the highest national level score with 32 points, followed by Marshall with 28, then Vicky and Thomas tied with 25. Among regional participants, Catherine finished on top with 40 points, followed by TianTian and Jirui tied with 33. Good work! 3/19/07 For Math League Round 5 Fairview won the round by 2 points and extended its lead over second place Cherry Creek to 5 points. Just one round to go! 3/7/07 Four more perfect scores in Math League, this time from Catherine, Vicky, Thomas, and Hannah in Round 5. With a 5 from Daniel Pak, our team score of 29 ensures that Fairview remains in first place going into Round 6. Congratulations to Thomas, Hannah, Marshall, Vicky, and Norris on their selection to the Colorado ARML A Team! Also kudos to TianTian, Catherine and Victor on their selection to the B Team! These students will join twenty-two other students to represent Colorado at the national ARML competition in June. February 20072/28/07 Mandelbrot Round 3 team scores have been posted. The national team has moved up to 23th place with a Round 3 team score of 18 out of 21 and the first regional team has moved up to 20th place with a score of 15. The second regional team also did well, scoring 12 points. 2/22/07 Congratulations to Hannah, Thomas and Vicky on being named winners of the UNC Math Contest! Hannah won first place, Thomas won tenth place, and Vicky was an eleventh grade winner. They will be honored at an awards banquet on the UNC campus on April 1. Over 1800 students participated in the two-round contest this year. Other Fairview students who took the February 3 final were Albert Brown, Jirui Qin and Richard Zang. 2/20/07 After four rounds of Math League, Fairview remains in first place, two points ahead of Cherry Creek. Six of the eighteen students on the leader board are from Fairview: Hannah, Thomas, Marshall, Vicky, Victor, and Jirui. 2/7/07 We've had several math contests in the past week. For the Mandelbrot Round 3 Individual Round last week, Norris and Hannah had the highest national level scores, while Catherine and TianTian had the highest regional level scores. The UNC Final Round conflicted with Science Bowl, unfortunately, so only six Fairview students were able to participate. Results will be available in March. Math League Round 4 was a peculiar round. First of all, it took place on the same day as the AMC A. Second, problem #2 had a wording error so everyone was awarded credit for that problem. We thought we had one perfect score--Marshall's--and ended up with four more: Jirui, Victor, Hannah, and Norris. Another perfect team score for Fairview. January 20071/23/07 After three rounds of Math League, Fairview remains in first place, two points ahead of Cherry Creek. Six teams, including Fairview, posted perfect Round 3 team scores of 30. Hannah and Thomas are among four students with perfect individual scores after three rounds, with Marshall one point behind. 1/16/07 Mandelbrot Round 2 team round scores have been posted. The national team scored 16, now in 28th place in the standings. The first regional team scored 18, now in 24th place. The second regional team, with just two members, scored a very respectable 11. 1/13/07 In the Colorado Math Marathon, Marshall places first and Thomas third in the individual senior division, winning an iPod shuffle and a USB flash drive, respectively. Marshall's team also placed second in the team senior division. 1/9/07 Fairview has its most successful Math League round to date with 7 perfect scores from Arthur, Michael, Victor, Vicky, Thomas, Hannah, and newcomer Khoi. Great job! We're guaranteed to stay in first place. December 200612/10/06 Fairview takes first place overall in the team competition after winning the second round of the Colorado Math League competition! We now lead Cherry Creek by 2 points. Hannah, Marshall and Thomas are among 5 Colorado students with perfect scores after two rounds. 12/10/06 All ten Fairview students who took the UNC Math Contest qualifying test were selected for the final round. Congratulations to Albert, Alex, Hannah, Jirui, Michael, Richard, Thomas, TianTian, Vicky, and Victor! The finals will take place on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at UNC. 12/6/06 The Mandelbrot Team Round 1 score for the national team has been corrected, boosting it from 10 to 14. With Round 2 individual results posted (but not the team round), the regional team is in 19th place and national team is in 29th place overall. Catherine, in 11th place, has the highest regional individual score, and Norris, in 31st place, has the highest national individual score.
November 200611/28/06 Fairview scores 29 out of 30 on Colorado Math League Round 2. Congratulations to Vicky, Thomas, Marshall, and Hannah on their perfect scores! Other high scorers included Jirui, TianTian and Norris. Mandelbrot Individual Round 2 took place right after Math League. Congratulations to Catherine who scored a perfect 14 on the regional test! Other regional high scorers were Michael, Jirui and TianTian. For the national test, Norris and Thomas were the highest scorers, followed by Marshall, Vicky and Hannah. We discovered that one of the Mandelbrot Team Round 1 solutions was never graded. The national team will probably pick up a few extra points. 11/10/06 Fairview places second in the first round of Colorado Math League, tying with Monarch, one point behind Cherry Creek. 11/3/06 Fairview places third in an exciting CSU Math Day team competition. Both Fairview teams gave a great effort and won many rounds against tough competition. Congratulations to Hannah for placing 2nd and Marshall for placing 9th in the PROBE exam! Both win CSU scholarships. October 200610/24/06 Fairview scores 26 out of 30 on Round 1 of the Colorado Math League competition. Congratulations to Thomas , Marshall and Hannah on their perfect scores! Other high scorers included Will, Vicky, Victor, Jirui, Thomas W., Norris, and Michael. 10/19/06 Fairview participates in the Mandelbrot Competition for the first time. Round 1, begun on Tuesday, was interrupted due to a police search of the school building and was completed on Thursday. For the individual round, Norris was the national level high scorer, followed by Marshall, Hannah, and Vicky, and Tian Tian the regional level high scorer, followed by Catherine, Jirui, and Michael. Team round solutions have been sent and will be graded within a few weeks. June 20066/4/06 The Colorado ARML Team wins first place in the B Division of the ARML Competition, outscoring 95 teams from around the country and abroad! The contest took place on June 2-3, at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, one of three regional sites hosting over 1500 participants. Congratulations to Hannah, Marshall, Thomas, Vicky, Victor, and Norris who represented Colorado at the ARML competition, along with students from eight other Colorado high schools. May 20065/1/06 Fairview wins the Colorado Math League Championship, tying with Arapahoe HS for first place! We placed first in four of the six rounds this year, with perfect scores from nine different students. Congratulations to Hannah, Thomas and Marshall on placing second, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the final individual standings! Vicky and Victor also ranked among the highest scoring students. Great job! April 20064/29/06 Congratulations to Colorado Mathematical Olympiad winners Hannah, Norris and Victor! Hannah placed second, winning the silver medal, and Norris and Victor won first honorable mention. At the awards ceremony held yesterday, winners were given prizes including scholarships, Wolfram Research software, Wolfram Research T-shirts, Casio Classpad 300, Casio watches, and math books. The Colorado Mathematical Olympiad is an essay-type math competition where students are allowed 4 hours to write solutions for 5 challenging problems. 450 students from around the state participated this year. 4/13/06 Congratulations to Hannah, Vicky and Victor on their results in the USA Mathematical Talent Search! Hannah was a Silver winner, Vicky a Bronze winner, and Victor received Honorable Mention. The USAMTS is a yearlong, four-round, essay-type contest that requires students to write formal solutions to challenging math problems. 4/11/06 A score of 26 for Fairview in the 6th and last round of this year's Math League Competition, with perfect scores once again from Hannah and Thomas. In a few weeks the final team results for 2005-06 will be announced. 4/4/06 Fairview tied for first place in Round 5 of the Math League Competition. With one round to go, Fairview is in first place overall, leading all Colorado high schools by 3 points. 4/1/06 Congratulations to Marshall on qualifying for the USAMO (USA Mathematical Olympiad) for the second year in a row! He is one of only 4 Coloradans whose AMC and AIME scores qualified them for the rigorous 2-day, 9-hour test. USAMO qualification is a prestigious honor awarded to only 431 students in the country, or 0.19% of the 226,000+ students who took the AMC10 or AMC12 test this year. Fairview students performed exceedingly well in the AMC tests this year. Marshall had a perfect score in the AMC10, followed by Thomas, who had the 4th highest score in Colorado, and Norris, who was 9th. In the AMC12, Thomas again was 4th highest in Colorado, followed by Hannah, who was 8th. In the AIME, Marshall and Hannah tied for 3rd highest in the state, while Vicky's score was 10th. March 20063/22/06 Congratulations to the following Fairview students who qualified for the AIME this year: Hannah Alpert, Daniel Beylkin, Marshall Carpenter, Ran Chen, Thomas Davids, Julia Hansford, Justin Kunstman, Vicky Li, Victor Li, Ellen Nazarenus, Colin Peterson, Norris Xu, Mutian Yao, and Pavel Zelinsky. Only 13% of the students who took the AMC10 or AMC12 qualified for the AIME this year. 3/15/06 Another 28 for Fairview in Math League Round 5, with perfect scores from Thomas, Marshall and Hannah. 3/7/06 Congratulations to Victor, Norris, Thomas, Marshall, and Hannah on their selection to the Colorado ARML team! The team is made up of fifteen of the top high school math students in the state and will represent Colorado at the national ARML competion in June. 3/6/06 For Math League Round 4, Fairview tied three other schools for third place. We are still in first place overall, leading by two points. February 20062/24/06 Fairview will be taking the AIME II this year, not the AIME I. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, beginning third period, in Room 212. 2/23/06 UNC Math Contest results are in. Congratulations to Hannah, Marshall, Vicky, and Ben on their excellent work! Hannah tied for second place overall, Marshall was a 10th grade winner, Vicky was a 10th grade honorable mention, and Ben was a 9th grade honorable mention. Last November, 2133 contestants from grades 7 through 12 took the UNC qualifying test. Only 234 students were selected to take the final round in January, including Jirui, Mutian, Norris, Thomas, and Victor. 2/16/06 Our AMC B was a successful event. It looks like four students qualified for the AIME for the first time and Marshall scored a perfect 150 on the AMC10. Congratulations! Math League Round 4 also went well this week. Fairview scored a 28 with perfect scores from Ben, Thomas and Hannah. 2/8/06 Math League Round 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, February 14, after school, in Room 220. The AMC B will be given on Wednesday, February 15, at 3:15 p.m. in Room 220. 2/6/06 Math League Round 3 results have been posted. Fairview tied for first place with 4 other schools.
